Nepal's holiest Hindu site sprawls along the sacred Bagmati river — a living complex of gilded pagodas, sadhus, and the open-air cremation ghats where life and death share one riverbank.
The main temple is open to Hindus only, but the east bank gives a respectful, full view of the golden roofs and the ghats below. Evening brings the Bagmati aarti: fire, bells and song that few visitors forget.
