A silent dawn drift in a dugout canoe down the Rapti — past basking gharial crocodiles, kingfishers in seven colours, and mist lifting off the water.
The canoe is Chitwan at its gentlest: no engine, just the pole's push and the jungle waking on both banks. Most trips end with a guided walk back through the community forest.

Insider tip
Sit low and keep your hands inside — gharials are harmless fish-eaters, but the boatmen enjoy the suspense.
